Software and Automation - the future is becoming the current

Apex Recruitment has been a specialist in the automotive, engineering, and manufacturing sectors for over 40 years.  We continue to be market leaders and early adopters to changing technologies.  So as part of our future strategy, we recognise that the use of software in all walks of life is going to increase dramatically.  So our job is to provide for the workforce of today but also to be looking at the careers of the next generation of our workforce.

Statistics produced by the World Economic Forum indicate that over 1 million jobs will disappear in the US as a result of automation.   Long gone are the days of leaving education and going to a job “for life”.   The student of today needs to be prepared to change job every few years, create their own jobs, and flex their careers.   Mckinsey reports that millions of jobs will, in fact, be created in response to emerging economies, aging populations, and technology development.  So it is vital that we stay ahead of the game and prepare for the future.

Software and Software engineering is the future so we need to embrace this and prepare our businesses for this change in direction.   Within the software world, on LinkedIn in the UK, there are over 120,000 people with a job title of software engineer (or derivation thereof), a 4% increase over the past 12 months.   But perhaps most startling was that of those 120,000, a massive 30% had changed role/company in the last 12 months.  This presents a whole new challenge to businesses and the need to attract and retain talent, and the methods to do this need to change accordingly.

So at Apex, we continue to provide for today’s workforce but will also be seeking to support both our existing clients and future clients to thrive in the ever-changing marketplace
