Since the first railroad built in Great Britain in 1825 the rail sector has changed significantly. Long gone are the mass use of steam locomotives and we now enter an era of high-speed transport. None more so than the HS2 project in the UK.
So what is HS2? The new railway line will run between London and the West Midlands and will carry trains that are 400m long with as many as 1,100 seats per train. The line will enable trains to reach speeds of up to 250 mph and would run as often as 14 times an hour in each direction.

Phase 1 of HS2 will cost between £25bn and £45bn at today’s prices and is expecting to be running by the latest in 2031.
Journey time from London to Birmingham will be cut from one hour 21 minutes to 52 minutes. Once phase 2 is complete, Manchester to London journeys would take one hour seven minutes down from two hours seven minutes, and Birmingham to Leeds 49 minutes (down from two hours).
Figures released in September 2018 reflect that the requirement for workers will reach circa 29,000 in the next two years.
