Hours: 08:30-15:30 (core hours) - Monday – Thursday, Friday (can finish at 13:00 on Friday once 37.5 hours worked in the week)


About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Prototype Build Technician with good experience in prototype within Transmission or Engine systems of high-quality transmission components for motorsport and aerospace applications. This role involves working in a small, dedicated team, applying a right-first-time approach to precision engineering.


Key Responsibilities

  • Build, strip and assemble prototype transmissions in line with technical build manuals and engineering guidance.
  • Proactively identify build process improvements and capture learnings to support future programme phases.
  • Diagnose and resolve transmission build faults and manufacturing-related issues.
  • Confidently strip down and assess unfamiliar transmission units without prior documentation.
  • Demonstrate a strong foundational understanding of transmission types, operating functions and component assemblies.
  • Install instrumentation and carry out engineering-requested modifications on test units.
  • Highlight issues during build, raising appropriate reports and contributing to structured problem-solving (e.g., 8D).
  • Follow correct part-picking and storage procedures in collaboration with engineering and logistics teams.
  • Maintain a safe, organised and professional workshop environment always.

Key Competencies & Experience

  • Proven experience working with diverse assemblies within a prototype build environment, including transmission or engine builds.
  • Skilled in interpreting engineering drawings and verifying the accuracy of manufactured components.
  • Strong understanding of precision measurement techniques to support bespoke build requirements (manual or CMM).
  • Capable of fabricating or modifying custom hardware to support development activities.
  • Hands-on experience with machining equipment such as lathes, mills, pillar drills, and welding tools

 

 

 

Please note, this role is deemed inside of IR35. The Umbrella Pay Rate offered is inclusive of the Assignment pay rate, holiday pay and Apex Recruitments contribution towards Employer Costs.
