Hours: Rotating early and late shifts:
Early shift 06.00am - 14.00pm Monday to Friday
Late shift 14.00pm - Midnight Mon to Wed, 14.00pm - 23.30pm Thurs
Role Summary
The CNC Setter Operator will be responsible for setting and operating Citizen sliding head and grinding machines, ensuring maximum efficiency, quality, and safety standards are consistently achieved. The CNC Setter Operator will carry out full machine setups, perform in-process inspections, and maintain accurate production records. This requires a proactive approach to continuous improvement, problem solving, and maintaining high manufacturing standards. The role will play a key part in ensuring output targets and quality expectations are met within a high-performing team environment.
Role & Responsibilities of the CNC Setter Operator
• Set and operate Citizen sliding head and CNC grinding machines in line with production requirements
• Interpret technical drawings and select appropriate CNC programs
• Complete full machine setups including tooling, fixtures, and datum setting
• Perform first-off inspections and in-process quality checks using precision measuring equipment
• Monitor machine performance, adjust offsets, and optimise speeds and feeds
• Maintain accurate production records including output and scrap reporting
• Follow works orders and Kanban systems, escalating any issues promptly
• Carry out routine maintenance and ensure machines remain fully operational
• Maintain high standards of housekeeping and adhere to 5S principles
• Ensure all health and safety procedures are followed, including correct PPE usage
Requirements of the CNC Setter Operator
• Proven experience setting and operating multi-axis CNC machines, particularly sliding head lathes and CNC grinders
• Ability to read, interpret, and edit G-code (ideally Fanuc)
• Experience using precision measuring equipment such as micrometres, verniers, and shadow graphs
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose production issues
• Flexible approach to support different departments and machine types
• Effective communication skills and ability to work within a team environment
