The role of Vehicle Control System Integration Engineer is integral to ensuring that their customers continue to receive an exceptional driving experience. 

The role in a nutshell:

  • You have the opportunity to work on industry leading Automated Driving technologies within the clients Automated Driving Chassis Engineering Group.
  • We are building a team of highly skilled engineers to develop motion control systems including trajectory control, robotic motion and vehicle dynamic control.
  • You will be working as part of a small and focused pre-development team working with prototype vehicles in an agile environment.
  • You will need to present a track record of software & mechatronic integration, ideally within a pre-development environment on Automated driving technologies or in related vehicular, robotics or other control fields.
  • You will be working with a cross functional team supporting the integration of motion control actuation (braking, steering etc.) software at a fast pace in a safety critical and controlled environment and coordinating the analysis of the system with internal and external partners both at home and abroad when required.
  • In addition, you will take a leading role in the vehicle & system analysis team, characterising vehicle dynamic and control system performance in our global test facilities.

What you will be doing:

  • Supporting the software integration, functional analysis and vehicle test activities for a special vehicle project with external partners. 
  • Vehicle Dynamic characterisation and Analysis. Conducting control system robustness analysis through DoE of environmental, vehicle and control system variation.
  • Working with a team of system and software engineers, including an offshore team, to deliver concept and production systems in a timely manner according to vehicle programme timing and local delivery milestones
  • Undertake any other work as directed by their line manager in connection with their job as may be requested from time to time
  • The Motion Systems function are building a team of highly skilled engineers to develop Motion Control systems including trajectory control, robotic motion and vehicle dynamic control. As the Automated Driving Software Integration Engineer you’ll have the opportunity to work on industry leading automated driving technologies within our clients automated Driving Chassis Engineering Group, you’ll be working as part of a small and focused pre-development team working with prototype vehicles in an agile environment.
  • You’ll be working with a cross functional team supporting the integration of motion control actuation (braking and steering) software at a fast pace in a safety critical and controlled environment and you’ll coordinate the analysis of the system with internal and external partners both from the UK and overseas when required.
  • You’ll be responsible for supporting the software integration, functional analysis and vehicle test activates for a special vehicle project with external partners and in addition you’ll be responsible for vehicle dynamic characterisation and analysis and you’ll conduct control system robustness analysis through DoE (Design of Experiments) of environmental, vehicle and control system variation.

What we expect from you:

  • As an experienced Engineer you’ll have a strong track record of working on vehicle software integration projects, you’ll have excellent vehicle network knowledge using CAN/Flexray/Ethernet and proficient in network diagnostics and interfacing tools such as Vector, DSpace or ETAS.
  • You’ll have experience with virtual validation tools such as IPG CarMaker and have experience working with offshore software development teams and suppliers for software coding and integration tasks.
  • You’ll be able to demonstrate a track record of software and mechatronic integration, ideally within a pre-development environment on automated driving technologies or in related vehicular, robotics or other control fields.
  • It is anticipated that you’ll have a degree in Electronics, software, Automotive/ Aerospace/ Robotics engineering or a similar subject although significant equivalent industry experience without a degree will also be considered.
  • A full, valid driving licence is essential and Advanced Global Proving Ground Licences would be advantageous.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

Essential:

  • Track record of working on vehicle software integration projects
  • Excellent vehicle network knowledge CAN, Flexray, Ethernet.
  • Proficient in Network diagnostic and interfacing tools, Vector, DSpace, ETAS etc.
  • Knowledge of MS Office Applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Project)
  • Degree in Electronics, Software, Automotive / Aerospace / Robotics engineering or similar subject, or equivalent industry experience
  • Virtual validation tools and techniques such as desktop Simulation tools (e.g. IPG CarMaker) or HIL environments (e.g. dSpace), and associated plant model development.
  • Experience working with offshore software development teams and / or 3rd party ECU suppliers for software coding and integration tasks
  • Full UK driving license with Advanced Global Proving Ground Licenses

Desirable:

  • Understanding of quality and robustness techniques and standards such as FMEA, P-Diagrams, noise factor analysis, and data analysis techniques to support this
  • Prior controls experience such as Vehicle Dynamics, Automated Path Planning or Robotics preferred
  • Virtual validation tools and techniques such as desktop Simulation tools (e.g. IPG CarMaker) or HIL environments (e.g. dSpace), and associated plant model development.
  • Requirements and change management tools and processes, version control, control strategy documentation.
  • Knowledge of software engineering principals such as model based software development, software architecture, dSpace Targetlink, the C programming language, and relevant standards e.g. MISRA advantageous but not essential
  • Component and system level issue investigations including appropriate problem solving and reporting tools (Six Sigma, 5D, Is / Is Not, Fault Tree etc)
