Prototype Materials Manager required to join a luxury automotive brand based in Daventry on a permanent basis paying a salary in the region of circa £60,000 per annum plus benefits.

We are looking for a Prototype Materials Manager who will be responsible for managing and coordinating the distribution of materials for production, performing analysis of materials, and determining optimum control levels. This will also include ensuring processes are robust, accurate and efficient and meet business demands alongside managing continuous improvement activity. You will be responsible for managing a team of Material Controllers and handling the planning and coordination of the department.

Benefitting from a permanent opportunity the successful Prototype Materials Manager will receive a salary in the region of circa £60,000 per annum (dependant on experience) as well as a range of employee benefits whilst working a Day Shift Monday to Friday.

The duties and responsibilities of the Prototype Materials Manager:

  • To manage and lead a team of material controllers to drive on time in full delivery of material to satisfy production requirements
  • Create and monitor KPIs to assess the team performance. Put in place corrective actions to drive performance back in line with KPI targets
  • Ensure all suppliers have a schedule which reflects production requirements
  • Implement a clear escalation and reporting mechanism within the material control team to effectively manage risk prior to it becoming a build stop concern. Join high risk supplier meetings to drive corrective actions
  • Present a clear ‘ready to load’ status to production with an understanding of part shortages and plan to resolve
  • Ensure inventory is maintained at optimal levels, preventing obsolescence where possible and appreciating cash flow and financial budgeting
  • Ensure robust and optimal material control whilst minimising financial risk through the introduction and monitoring of processes and procedures
  • Obsolete and slow-moving stock are identified, financially provisioned and reduced
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and the implementation of best practice principles, to enhance performance and operations
  • Attend the engineering change reviews to ensure change is managed through the supply base without disruption to the line
  • Produce a maintain a supplier escalation file which clearly illustrates the key risks from a supply chain perspective to the wider business

The ideal Prototype Materials Manager will have experience in:

  • Knowledge of stock control or precious metal control (PMC) systems
  • Extensive Supply Chain and MRP experience
  • People management/leadership experience 
  • Knowledge of the application of statistical controls and techniques in satisfying ISO/TS 16949 standards
  • Numeracy skills essential with extensive knowledge of spreadsheets, databases, and pivot tables (or similar). 
  • Computer literacy, including ERP systems, Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Experience in automotive components and systems (in a motorsport environment would be ideal)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to take ownership
  • Thrive in a pressurised and fast paced environment, with the ability to prioritise workload
  • Have a drive to seek continuous improvement, to manage and develop a team
  • Able to identify problems or issues and then draw up conclusions by gathering, analysing, and interpreting quantitative and qualitative information
  • Able to achieve results and/or building capability by assigning task and decision-making responsibilities to individuals or teams with clear boundaries and support

Day Shift: Monday – Friday: 8.00am – 17.00pm with 45-minute lunch break

Pay: Circa £60,000 per annum + Benefits
