Location: Crewe

Employment Type: Contract Inside IR35,

Contract End Date: September 2025, initially

Flexi Time: 8am typical start finish between 3-5pm, mostly onsite 1-2 days at home

About the Role as a Prototype & Workshops Planning Engineer:

We are seeking a dynamic Prototype & Workshops Planning Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for the end-to-end planning and delivery of Research & Development (R&D) vehicle build projects, focusing on prototype and workshop activities. Reporting to the Functional Manager, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Defining, planning, and steering vehicle development projects.
  • Creating and managing project delivery plans.
  • Identifying and mitigating risks throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Allocating resources and securing commitments.
  • Tracking project progress and managing budgets effectively.
  • Leading cross-functional project teams.
  • Providing clear communication to senior stakeholders, including Heads of Departments and Directors.
  • Delivering vehicle builds on time, ensuring quality and cost targets are met.
  • Supporting strategic and tactical planning for prototype builds, workshop demands, and technology roadmaps.

About You:

You will thrive in this role if you have a strong background in engineering or project planning, coupled with excellent problem-solving and organizational skills. Ideal candidates will demonstrate:

  • Knowledge of project management principles and practices.
  • An understanding of vehicle components and their packaging, including experience with hybrid and EV powertrains.
  • Familiarity with Engineering, Production, and LQC processes.
  • Experience with rapid manufacturing techniques to support prototype builds and workshop requirements.
  • Ability to manage complex tasks with a strategic and tactical approach.
  • Strong team leadership skills, with experience leading cross-functional teams at both Brand and Group levels.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present and report to senior management effectively.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Mechanical EngineeringAutomotive Engineering, or Project Management.

About the Department:

The Prototype & Workshops Planning team is responsible for creating strategic and tactical plans for delivering prototype and media vehicles. The function involves collaborating with both in-house teams and external partners to meet customer expectations, manage risk, and ensure smooth project execution.
